Crowns will preserve and protect a tooth if it has been weakened through cracking, a large filling or had a root canal treatment. Crowns can be made of a number of materials depending on requirements and suitability including porcelain, porcelain bonded to metal, non precious metals and gold. If the tooth is visible porcelain or porcelain bonded to metal is usually what we would recommend. We use the latest technology to match the shade of your tooth to your crown. A bridge consists of crowns that are joined together, and are used to fill spaces where there are missing teeth.
If you find yourself feeling unhappy with the appearance of your teeth for example their shape, size or colour, there are numerous options available that can help you achieve that confident smile . Cosmetic crowns and bridges, veneers, white fillings, tooth whitening , implants and dentures are available . Please note that cosmetic procedures are available on a private basis only.
RXaligners has revolutionised orthodontic treatment, allowing you to transform your smile discreetly and comfortably. It uses a series of virtually invisible custom-made aligners to gradually straighten your teeth without the need for metal wires or brackets. Call our friendly team to discuss how we can improve your smile.
If you are concerned about the colour of your teeth we offer a range of tooth whitening treatments to give you a brighter, more confident smile. Tooth whitening provides great results without being invasive to the teeth. It is a simple procedure whereby the bleaching agents release oxygen which removes tooth staining without damage to the tooth structure.
We provide two types of whitening at Catherine Court Dentistry. Firstly , a take home system is available which includes mouth trays that are custom made to fit your teeth , in which a bleaching gel is placed that you apply either while sleeping or for a few hours during the day.
We also have the Zoom in surgery system which is an instant result treatment carried out in the surgery. The result is achieved by directing a special Zoom activating light at the teeth after application of the whitening gel.
Veneers are thin facings that are placed over the surface of teeth to improve appearance. There are two types available, porcelain and composite.
Porcelain veneers involve minimal tooth preparation and are manufactured by skilled dental technicians to precise specifications using a mould of your teeth. They can take up to two weeks to make in the laboratory but during this period temporary veneers are fitted to your teeth. The finished porcelain veneers are permanently bonded to the tooth.
Composite veneers involve little or no tooth reduction and can be done in just one visit whereby a tooth coloured composite material is bonded to the tooth giving an immediate improvement.
Dental Implants are one way of replacing missing teeth. A dental implant involves the placement of a small titanium post into the bone where the tooth is missing. This acts like the root of a natural tooth which can then be used to support a replacement tooth. Implants can also be used to support fixed bridges or dentures.
If you are interested in implants please contact us to arrange an implant consultation.
We aim to provide you with the necessary information and treatment in order for you to maintain your teeth for a lifetime. We can advise on detection, prevention and therapeutic treatment of gum disease and tooth decay.
Healthy gums are the foundations for healthy teeth. Combining regular periodontal appointments with your own home care is the best way to maintain a healthy mouth and give you fresher breath. Neglecting your gums can lead to poor gum health and can result in teeth becoming mobile and even falling out. These problems can be treated and oral hygiene instruction provided in order to help maintain healthy gums.
Root canal treatment involves the removal of the pulp tissues from the tooth in the event that it gets infected or inflamed. The pulp can be infected or inflamed due to either deep decay or an extensive restoration that involves the pulp, a cracked or fractured tooth due to trauma, excessive wear of enamel and dentine exposing the pulp, and sometimes as a result of severe gum disease . Signs of pulp damage may include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discolouration of the tooth, swelling, tenderness of the overlying gums or a bad taste in the mouth . Occasionally there may be no symptoms at all.
